2 Iranian policemen killed in clashes with drug traffickers

Tehran [Iran], July 21: Two Iranian policemen were killed on Thursday in armed clashes with drug traffickers in the southwestern province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.
The clashes occurred on an intercity road when the police chased two suspected sedans that refused to pull over as instructed by the police, according to the Mehr report, citing Ali Varastegi, a deputy police chief of the province.
During the chase, two policemen were shot dead, according to Varastegi.
Two suspects were arrested after the clashes but the two that shot the policemen had escaped, JavadHashemi, the province's deputy governor for political and security affairs, told the Iranian Students' News Agency, adding that they would continue the search until their arrest.
