Use water from afar to put out a nearby fire

May 29, 2025

Ottawa [Canada], May 29: For 158 years, Canada has been an independent country, no longer a British colony, but has always been very attached to the British monarchy.
However, the recent visit to Canada by King Charles III of England was not easy for this monarch. The international media compared King Charles to "walking on a tightrope" when visiting Canada. The reason lies in the sensitivity of foreign politics of the event. This sensitivity is rooted in the current state of relations between Canada and the United States. The British monarch must be very careful and discreet so that this trip to Canada does not negatively affect the relationship between England and the United States.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the British Labour Party is currently trying very hard to win over US President Donald Trump, and King Charles has even invited Mr. Trump to visit the UK for the second time this fall. Meanwhile, the relationship between Canada and the US is very difficult. Mr. Trump has not only made things difficult for Canada with new trade protection tariffs, but has also repeatedly announced his intention to annex Canada as the 51st state of the US. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his Liberal Party won the recent parliamentary election thanks to Mr. Trump's challenge and difficulties. The difficulty for King Charles when visiting Canada is to show that he is leaning towards Canada, that is, to side with Mr. Carney and the Liberal Party in uncompromisingly responding to the new US administration, while not offending Mr. Trump.
The monarch must go because he cannot help but publicly support Canada, even if he does not want to. Supporting Canada is the only way to preserve Canada's constitutional monarchy, the future of the Commonwealth, and the dignity and prestige of the British Royal Family. The more determined Mr Carney is to confront Mr Trump, the more he needs to appeal to a distant country to put out the fire near at hand.
