Nov 08, 2025

Prague [Czech Republic], November 8: The preliminary reading of the U.S. Consumer Sentiment Index released Friday by the University of Michigan (UM) Surveys of Consumers fell to 50.3 in the November 2025 survey, down from the final reading of 53.6 in October and below last November's 71.8.
The figure is also lower than market expectations of 53.2, as consumers remain worried about their jobs and inflation.
The preliminary reading of the Current Economic Conditions Index fell to 52.3 in November, down from the final reading of 58.6 in October and below last November's 63.9. The Index of Consumer Expectations fell to 49, down from the final reading of 50.3 in October and below last November's 76.9.
Meanwhile, year-ahead inflation expectations inched up from 4.6 percent in October to 4.7 percent in November, though long-run inflation expectations declined from 3.9 percent in October to 3.6 percent in November.
Consumer sentiment fell back about 6 percent in November, led by a 17 percent drop in current personal finances and an 11 percent decline in year-ahead expected business conditions, said Joanne Hsu, director of the UM's Surveys of Consumers.
"With the federal government shutdown dragging on for over a month, consumers are now expressing worries about potential negative consequences for the economy," she added.
