Ukrainian drones set Russian oil refinery on fire, say officials

Sep 14, 2025

Moscow [Russia], September 14: A refinery belonging to the oil company Bashneft caught fire in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan on the Volga River after a drone attack, official said on Saturday.
Regional head Radiy Khabirov said the facility was targeted by at least two drones, one of which crashed on the premises.
"The production facility was slightly damaged and a fire broke out, which is currently being extinguished," he wrote.
Drone strikes on Russian oil facilities have become a regular feature of Ukraine's defence strategy, aimed at disrupting military fuel supplies and cutting a key source of revenue for financing the war. A recent shift, however, is that such attacks are now occurring in daylight and deep inside Russian territory. Bashkortostan is located about 900 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. (DPA)
