Tunis [Tunisia], March 1: Tunisian security forces have dismantled a drug trafficking network operating in the northern suburbs of the capital Tunis, seizing 1,250 narcotic pills, the Tunisian National Guard said Friday.
As part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking, a National Guard unit carried out an operation in Carthage Byrsa and arrested two young women and a man linked to the trafficking network, the National Guard said in a statement on Facebook.
Investigations showed that the two women, employees of a pharmaceutical company, had been stealing narcotic pills and supplying them to a distributor who sold them to young people in the area, it said, adding that investigations are underway.
The public prosecution has authorized the suspects' detention pending further inquiries.
The Tunisian government has taken a strong stance against drug trafficking, arresting hundreds of individuals involved in the crime during recent nationwide operations.
