Trump to visit Xi in China in mid-May: US

Mar 26, 2026

Washington [US], March 26: The postponed meeting between US President Donald Trump and China's head of state Xi Jinping will now take place in mid-May, according to the US.
Trump's government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that Trump's visit to Beijing is planned for May 14 and 15. There will then be a return visit to Washington later this year. Leavitt did not give an exact date.
Trump had originally planned to travel to China at the end of March.
With reference to the Iran war, Washington then asked Beijing to postpone the visit by a few weeks.
Trump and Xi last met in South Korea in the autumn. The two largest economies are locked in a major trade conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz, which is particularly important for China's oil supplies, is also blocked due to the Iran war.
