Trump signs executive order to control immigrants in 'sanctuary cities'

Apr 29, 2025

Washington [US], April 29: U.S. President Donald Trump on April 28 signed three executive orders aimed at tightening immigration controls.
According to The New York Times, an executive order signed by Trump on April 28 includes a directive asking U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to take the necessary legal measures to control immigrants in cities deemed "sanctuary cities." where there is a soft policy with immigrants.
The second order relates to increasing legal resources to assist police officers accused of misconduct. Finally, the regulation aims to increase the English language requirement for truck drivers.
The Trump administration's move comes as efforts to strengthen the management and deportation of undocumented immigrants, especially in cities that have laws that protect them and often limit cooperation with federal immigration officials.
Reuters reported that the Trump administration on April 28 praised the early results of the immigration control campaign. A campus at the White House has posted photos of 100 accused immigrants.
Trump has criticized cities and states that cover up immigrants, calling them "shelters" and blaming them for prioritizing the release of offenders instead of coordinating with federal immigration agencies to make arrests.
The U.S. Border Patrol said about 7,200 immigrants were apprehended in March, the lowest monthly level since 2000. White House immigration chief Tom Homan said: "We have the safest border in the history of this country and the numbers prove it."
