Trump calls on pharmaceutical companies to explain the effectiveness of Covid-19 drugs

Sep 02, 2025

Washington [US], September 2: US President Donald Trump has called on pharmaceutical companies to publicly disclose the effectiveness of their Covid-19 treatments, while questioning the effectiveness of the government's previous campaign to speed up the development of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments.
Reuters on September 1 quoted US President Donald Trump calling on pharmaceutical companies to explain the effectiveness of drugs intended to treat Covid-19 , while saying there is still disagreement about whether these drugs save lives.
"With the CDC under scrutiny for this question, I want answers, and I want them now. I've been shown information from Pfizer and others that is absolutely incredible, but they never seem to release those results to the public," he wrote on Truth Social.
"They're going to go on another hunt and leave everyone to argue about the success or failure of their Covid-19 work," he said, calling on the companies to share their findings with the CDC and the public.
"I want them to release it now to the CDC and to the public, and clear up this mess, one way or another," Trump wrote .
He also questioned whether Operation Warp Speed, the US government's campaign to accelerate the development of Covid-19 treatments and vaccines , would actually deliver the results it claimed.
The statement comes as US authorities tighten control over Covid-19 vaccines. On August 27, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a batch of Covid-19 vaccines while imposing new restrictions on who can receive them.
The agency is limiting the updated shots to people who are at risk of serious complications, those 65 and older, or have other health problems, according to NPR. Previously, Covid-19 vaccines were given to anyone 6 months and older, regardless of health status.
Federal health officials say the changes are justified because most people now have a high level of immunity. They also have expressed doubts about the vaccine's safety and effectiveness, doubts that are largely dismissed by public health experts and contradict a large body of scientific evidence.
