Thousands without power, water after Russian strike

Feb 20, 2025

Kiev [Ukraine] / Moscow [Russia], February 20: Tens of thousands of people in the port city of Odessa were left without electricity, water and heating following a Russian attack, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.
The city's mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, described on Telegram a "massive enemy attack" on densely populated areas of the city. At least one person was injured, he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that at least 160,000 people in Odessa were without electricity in freezing temperatures after Russia once again targeted a civilian power plant. Zelensky used the attack to criticize the "notorious meeting in Riyadh" on Tuesday between the top diplomats of Russia and the United States, in which Kiev was not invited.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied that Moscow's troops targeted Ukraine's energy sector during those talks. The Ukrainian military said on Wednesday morning that Russia had attacked with 167 drones during the night. The city of Sumy was also hit with two missiles, it added.
Meanwhile, Russia also came under attack. According to the governor of the Russian region of Samara, Vyacheslav Fedorishev, Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in the city of Syzran on the Volga River. (DPA)
