Thirteen found dead in Peru after kidnapping

Mexico City, May 6: Thirteen people who were kidnapped in northern Peru on April 26 have been found dead days after their abduction, the Peruvian Interior Ministry confirmed on Sunday.
The bodies of the victims, who were miners and security guards at a gold mine in the Andean province of Pataz, were found tied up in a pit, the mayor of the city of Pataz told broadcaster Canal N. Mining company Poderosa said the victims were working for a contractor and were abducted by miners linked to criminal groups seeking to seize control of the gold mine.
The area, located in Peru's La Libertad region, has been under a state of emergency for over a year due to ongoing violence and insecurity. The Interior Ministry said elite teams from its special unit against organized crime will be deployed, as well as its division for kidnapping and extortion investigation, among others.
