The US adjusts its crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Dec 15, 2025

Washington [US], December 15: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is adjusting its immigration enforcement operations, shifting its focus from all undocumented immigrants to those who have committed serious crimes, according to NewsNation, citing sources familiar with the matter on December 13.
Accordingly, units under the command of U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino will prioritize apprehending specific individuals with serious criminal records. This approach means a reduction in large-scale operations that previously took place in public locations.
Previously, undocumented immigrants were targeted based on characteristics such as ethnicity, accent, language, or location, such as Home Depot retail stores or auto washes, where many migrant workers often seek seasonal employment. Agents will still conduct law enforcement through vehicle stops and checks, but the U.S. Border Patrol is unlikely to continue making arrests on the streets.
A poll by YouGov (UK) published last month showed that a majority of Americans oppose the actions of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency related to the administration's crackdown on immigration.
