SME fair highlights women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh

Dhaka [Bangladesh], November 25:Bangladesh's largest National Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Fair began in the capital of Dhaka on Thursday with a view to promoting entrepreneurs and expanding their markets through product diversification.
Some 325 SMEs have been exhibiting their products, including jute, agriculture and leather products, as well as electrical and information and technology goods at the 10-day fair.
Bangladeshi Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun inaugurated the expo at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), also known as the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center.
Bangladesh's SME Foundation has been organizing the annual fair since 2012.
Md Mafizur Rahman, managing director of the SME Foundation, said at least 60 percent of the total stalls in the fair are by women entrepreneurs. He said the organizer is giving priorities to women in small and medium industries sector.
On the sidelines of the event, five seminars will be held on easy financing for SME entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, technology, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and cluster-based product development.
