Signs of torture reveal ordeal of dead Ukrainian journalist in Russian captivity

May 01, 2025

Kiev [Ukraine], May 1: Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna was tortured before she died in Russian captivity, numerous news outlets cited Ukrainian authorities as saying.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office discovered traces of torture during the examination of the returned body, the Washington Post and Guardian newspapers reported, as well as Ukrainska Pravda and the independent Russian portal istories after a joint investigation published on Tuesday.
Her organs had apparently been removed, in what could have been an attempt to cover up her cause of death. The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, wrote about the case and investigation on X on Wednesday, saying "This is what Russian occupation looks like." The Ukrainian authorities suspect that the Roshchyna was strangled. (DPA)
