Apr 09, 2025

Washington [US], April 9: Late this night, AFP cited information from the White House confirming that US tariffs on Chinese goods will increase to 104%, effective from April 9 (Washington time).
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose an additional 50 percent tariff on goods from China if Beijing does not stop retaliating.
And in the latest development, the White House confirmed that President Trump will act as he said, raising tariffs for China to 104%.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said nearly 70 countries have been in contact with the U.S. in hopes of kickstarting the negotiation process to minimize the impact of President Trump's new tariff policy, according to Reuters.
According to Leavitt, the agreements will be approved if they benefit American workers and address the trade deficit with the United States.
President Trump has directed the White House team to work in the direction of "shoemaking" with each country and territory that has been in contact with the United States.
During the negotiations, the tariffs remained in effect as previously announced by President Trump.
According to the White House, Trump will discuss issues such as foreign aid and military presence in other countries and see these as part of trade negotiations.
