Russia accuses Israel of 'political murder' in Iran

Jun 25, 2025

Moscow [Russia], June 25: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Israel of "political murder" in its targeting of senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists, state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday.
The Israeli actions threatened global security and the global economy, Lavrov said, according to the TASS report.
The system for non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction had also been damaged, the veteran foreign minister said.
Lavrov termed the Israeli and US bombing raids on Iranian nuclear installations a violation of the UN Charter and other international law provisions, as there was no evidence that Iran had attacked, or was intending to attack, Israel.
He said Russia had made proposals for a solution to the conflict to Iran, the United States and Israel. While there had been positive reactions, there had been no implementation in practice, he said.
Lavrov expressed scepticism on the ceasefire between Iran and Israel announced by US President Donald Trump. "We should not draw premature conclusions on the basis of incomplete information, but we are for peace," he said. (DPA)
