Tel Aviv [Israel], February 13: US intelligence analysis suggests Israel could attack Iran's nuclear facilities this year.
The Wall Street Journal reported on February 12 that the administration of US President Joe Biden, whose term ended in January, had predicted that Israel was considering attacking Iran's nuclear facilities this year.
According to US intelligence analysis, Israel sees an opportunity to attack to increase its advantage over Iran after its opponent has recently suffered a setback.
US intelligence agencies in the early days of President Donald Trump's administration also issued reports with similar conclusions.
The attack campaign, it is assessed, requires support and weapons from the United States. Israel believes that President Trump is more inclined to support and participate in such action than his predecessor, Joe Biden.
However, Israel is said to be concerned that the time to act to prevent Iran from developing an atomic bomb is running out. Iran has long insisted it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
The Washington Post reported that the most comprehensive report, compiled in early January by the intelligence arm of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), found that Israel has the ability to attack Iran's Fordow and Natanz nuclear facilities in the first half of 2025.
Current and former U.S. officials familiar with the intelligence said the discovery came from an analysis of Israeli planning following the bombing of Iran in late October 2024, which degraded its air defenses and left the country vulnerable to further attacks.
The Israeli government and military, and US intelligence agencies have not commented on the information of The Wall Street Journal .
The prospect of an Israeli attack could pose a challenge for President Trump, who has campaigned on restoring peace and ending armed conflicts in the Middle East and Europe while emphasizing support for Israel.
In a recent interview with the New York Post , President Trump said he would prefer to sign a deal to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, rather than attack the Gulf country.
