Quran burning complicate Sweden's NATO bid

Jan 25, 2023

Istanbul [Turkey], January 25: Turkish President RecepTayyip Erdogan has slammed the door for now on Sweden's effort to become a NATO member following a Quran burning in Stockholm. "If you do not show respect for the Turkish Republic or the religious faith of Muslims, then you cannot get any support from us on the NATO issue," Erdogan said in Ankara on Monday evening. Out of security concerns, the Swedish embassy in Ankara remained closed on Tuesday because of expected demonstrations outside the building. (AFP)
