Pro-Russian former president poised to win Bulgarian vote, show exit polls

Apr 20, 2026

Sofia [Bulgaria], April 20: The coalition of Bulgaria's pro-Russian former president Rumen Radev holds a clear lead in the country's parliamentary elections, exit polls suggested on Sunday evening.
The snap vote, called after the previous government collapsed in December following mass protests over a budget law, marked the country's eighth parliamentary election in five years.
The centre-left Progressive Bulgaria alliance led by Radev, who resigned in January to be able to run in the election, currently leads in the polls with nearly 39%, according to three separate pollsters. This result would constitute a commanding win over the centre-right GERB-SDS, which follows in second place. (DPA)
