Portuguese TAP to cancel 360 flights on strike days

Nov 24, 2022

Lisbon [Portugal], November 24: The Portuguese airline TAP said on Wednesday that it would cancel 360 flights scheduled for Dec. 8-9 due to a strike of the National Union of Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC).
The decision was to avoid "uncertainties for customers," said the airline in a statement. It estimated losses of around eight million euros (8.3 million U.S. dollars).
"This decision will come at a great cost to TAP, but it is the right decision to protect our passengers," said the airline, adding that it would try to find the best solutions and minimize inconvenience.
Crew members linked to SNPVAC announced the strike, citing "dissatisfaction, revolt and malaise" among workers due to TAP's restructuring plan, which includes wage cuts among other measures.
