Warsaw [Poland], January 17: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held discussions on Thursday, pledging to deepen cooperation and enhance ties across various sectors.
Tusk, whose country is holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union, emphasized the need of increasing trade exchange and addressing Poland's trade deficit with Vietnam. He pledged to expedite the EU-Vietnam investment agreement's ratification, viewing it as essential for bolstering economic relations. Both leaders stressed mutual promotion in Europe and Southeast Asia to deepen bilateral ties.
The talks also touched on the war in Ukraine, with both sides sharing views on contributing to a swift resolution. Chinh lauded Poland's economic prowess and highlighted plans to strengthen cooperation, especially in security and defense.
Prime Minister Chinh expressed admiration for Poland's economic strength and acknowledged the growing trade relations between the two nations. Looking ahead, he announced plans to focus on key areas of cooperation, particularly in security and defense.
"We want to enhance cooperation between defense industries, explore modern technologies, and focus on drone production, as well as training and education," he said.
Vietnam had announced a visa waiver for organized tourist groups from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland, effective from March 1 to the year's end, as part of a tourism stimulus program. Tusk welcomed this move, noting its convenience for Polish tourists to Vietnam.
