Over 100 killed in battle between Syria's Kurds and Turkey allies

Jan 06, 2025

Cairo [Egypt], January 6: Intense clashes between Kurdish forces and Turkish-backed factions in northern Syria have killed more than 100 over the past two days, a monitoring group reported on Sunday.
The dead included 85 from the pro-Turkey factions and 16 fighters from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The situation in Syria's northern Manbij countryside has escalated in the past two days as Turkish troops have stepped up their air and ground attacks. The two sides are battling for control of the strategically important Tishrin Dam, according to the UK-based observatory, which relies on a network of contacts inside Syria. The Turkish military reportedly shelled the area around the dam on the Euphrates River with artillery. (DPA)
