Oman announces ceasefire between US and Houthis

May 07, 2025

Cairo [Egypt], May 7: Oman has brokered a ceasefire between the United States and Yemen's Houthi rebels, according to a statement from the Omani Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
A ministry spokesman said both parties had agreed to halt further attacks on each other, including strikes targeting US vessels in the Red Sea.
The agreement, aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation and the unimpeded flow of international trade, follows a series of Oman-mediated talks between US officials and Houthi representatives, the Foreign Ministry said.
For months, US forces have launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, citing the need to protect commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea. The Houthis have repeatedly targeted both military and civilian vessels in the area, vowing to continue their attacks until the war in Gaza between Israel and the Iran-backed Hamas is brought to an end.
