North Korea replaces a series of senior military officials

Pyongyang [North Korea], May 30: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has chaired a meeting of the Central Military Commission, making changes to military personnel.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on May 30 that Kim Jong-un directed the organization of a meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea on May 29. At the meeting, the commission appointed six new commanders of corps-level units, the director of the Artillery Bureau and the director of the Security Bureau, and transferred a number of political commissars.
North Korea said the meeting discussed ways to more firmly establish the "iron discipline system" of the country's armed forces organs and exercise "strict control and guidance" over the military.
Pyongyang also decided on military measures to firmly maintain strategic and tactical superiority, and approved a series of new projects in the fields of defense science and industry.
The North Korean meeting appeared to be aimed at tightening military discipline after the warship launch incident, Yonhap news agency reported. Kim had ordered the completion of the warship's repairs before a plenary meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea in June.
In connection with the investigation into the warship launch incident, North Korea has arrested several officials, including the deputy director of the party's munitions industry department.
Also on May 29, leader Kim Jong-un inspected a North Korean artillery drill. Mr. Kim said that it is necessary to focus on organizing shooting competitions that closely follow the real war environment in order to build a strong military force.
