No need for miracles, says confident Scholz ahead of German election

Potsdam [Germany], February 23: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday said he does not "believe in miracles" but is confident he can pull off an election victory, one day before the country goes to the polls.
Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD) is languishing in third place in polling, with the chancellor set to lose his position to conservative rival Friedrich Merz.
But Scholz is counting on undecided voters to provide an unlikely comeback.
"I am convinced that this time, a lot of people will only make up their minds at the polling station," said Scholz, adding that he was confident that voters would back the SPD "so that the government can continue under my leadership."
The chancellor also told dpa that he was sure he can win his constituency in the eastern city of Potsdam, just outside Berlin, where he is running against Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock from the Greens.
"The mood is favourable," said Scholz as he visited an SPD campaign stand in the city centre.
Scholz gave a positive assessment of the short election campaign, which was prompted by the collapse of his three-party coalition in November. "The election campaign was very impressive and I enjoyed it," he said ahead of his final event in Potsdam in the evening.
