Jan 15, 2024

Colombia [US], January 15: Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez said on January 13 that rescue forces continued to search for survivors after the landslide that killed at least 33 people, mostly children.
This deadly landslide occurred on the road connecting the cities of Medellin and Quibdo in the Choco region in northern Colombia on January 12, after more than 24 hours of intense rain
AFP quoted a local official as saying that many people blocked by a landslide earlier on January 12 abandoned their cars to take shelter in a house near the Carmen de Atrato urban area.
"But unfortunately, another landslide hit and buried them," the official added. While much of Colombia is suffering from drought, meteorologists have warned of the risk of heavy rain in some areas bordering the Pacific Ocean.
