Jordan voices regret over failure of Yemen's truce renewal

Oct 10, 2022

Amman [Jordan], October 10:Jordan on Sunday expressed regret that the truce in Yemen was not renewed, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The truce, which originally came into effect in April 2022 and expired on Oct. 2, has helped in alleviating Yemenis' suffering, notably by providing humanitarian assistance, the statement quoted ministry spokesperson Haitham Abu Al Foul as saying.
The spokesperson also reiterated Jordan's support for efforts to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on all agreed-upon initiatives.
Such a solution should help end the suffering of the Yemeni people and support their aspirations towards peace and stability, he said.
Jordan will continue to facilitate the flights between Yemeni capital Sanaa and Jordanian capital Amman, he added.
On April 2, the Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed upon a two-month truce brokered by the United Nations (UN). The truce was later renewed twice through Oct. 2.
On Oct. 2, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg announced that no agreement had been reached to renew the expired truce between the Yemeni warring parties.
