Iran denies launching drones intercepted by Saudi Arabia

Mar 16, 2026

Cairo [Egypt], March 16: The Saudi Defence Ministry reported on Sunday that its forces intercepted 14 drones over the Riyadh region and in the eastern part of the country, home to many of Saudi Arabia's oil facilities.
The ministry provided no further details.
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates also reported renewed attacks with missiles and drones from Iran on Sunday.
Iran's Fars news agency, seen as a semi-official outlet of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), denied the attack on Saudi Arabia, saying it was not linked to Iran.
"The Saudi government should make efforts to uncover the origin of the attacks," Fars said.
The United States and Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Iran in late February. The war has since spread to the wider Middle East region.
Tehran has retaliated with strikes against Israel as well as Gulf states allied with Washington.
In Saudi Arabia, these have targeted oil facilities, the US embassy in Riyadh and a US military base.
