Iran aims to outlaw Musk's Starlink

Jun 30, 2025

Tehran [Iran], June 30: Iran's parliament has voted to ban the use of Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, the ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.
Under the law, violations could be punished with fines, flogging, or up to two years in prison. It is unclear how widely Starlink is used within Iran. However, the cost of the service is likely beyond the reach of most households.
Starlink is one of the few tools available to Iranians during state-imposed internet blackouts, such as those recently enforced during the war with Israel.
Parliament also passed a measure to increase penalties for espionage.
