German military missions for Lebanon and Bosnia set to be extended

May 23, 2025

Berlin [Germany], May 23: The extension of two international missions by the German military received broad support during a debate in the German parliament on Thursday.
Although not yet confirmed, a clear majority in the lower house of parliament showed they were in favour of extending the military deployments off the coast of Lebanon and in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In addition to the two groups in the government coalition - the conservatives and the Social Democrats - the Greens also signalled their support for the extension at the first reading of the bill. If the deployments receive final approval from lawmakers, up to 300 Bundeswehr soldiers will continue to support the international UNIFIL mission, which has been monitoring the border area between Israel and Lebanon since 1978.
