Gaza humanitarian issues to be Blinken's top priority on Middle East trip: White House

Feb 05, 2024

Washington [US], February 5: Humanitarian issues in Gaza will be a top priority for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on his current trip to the region, according to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
Blinken was en route to the Middle East in a trip that will include stops in Israel, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the West Bank this week.
"The needs of the Palestinian people are something that are going to be front and centre," Sullivan told the CBS program Face the Nation.
It is vital to secure a deal to release the remaining Israeli captives, and an accompanying humanitarian pause, Sullivan said.
The ball is in the court of Hamas when it comes to such a deal, he said.
