French auditors' report tells Louvre museum to spend more on security

Nov 07, 2025

Paris [France], November 7: The Louvre should make more efficient use of its funds to improve security and renovate the famous Paris art museum, auditors said on Thursday, in a report compiled before the recent high-profile robbery.
The auditors from the Cour des Comptes, a government body, said that the museum had devoted much effort into making the Louvre "visible and attractive" while neglecting technical systems, including those for security and renovating the building. The report presented was compiled before the brazen daylight heist at the museum on October 19.
Cour des Comptes head Pierre Moscovici said funds were not lacking. "The problem lies elsewhere, that is to say in determining the focus," he said.
The auditors called for a rule requiring 20% of ticket income to be used for the purchase of artefacts to be abolished in order to put more money into security and renovation. (DPA)
