Paris [France], January 8: Fans, friends and family bid farewell to the late French star actress Brigitte Bardot on Wednesday at a funeral service in Saint-Tropez in the south of France.
The service was broadcast live on large screens at various locations throughout the town, known as a luxury resort.
Fans were also able to watch the funeral service on French television. After a procession through the town, Bardot will be buried in a family grave.
Several admirers of the actress had already gathered in Saint-Tropez that morning. "We travelled for 10 hours yesterday to pay our respects," one fan told France Info. "She was truly an extraordinary woman. A piece of France has been lost." Despite the small circle of guests in the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, there were also some familiar faces. Chanson star Mireille Mathieu sang at the mass.
Before the service, Mathieu said in their last phone call, the two had called each other sisters. Well-known anti-whaling activist Paul Watson also attended the service. Bardot was very committed to animal welfare. She appeared in more than 40 movies, but in the mid-seventies, she stopped making films.
