Seoul [South Korea], January 14: A South Korean special counsel team has called for the death penalty for former president Yoon Suk Yeol, the country's official news agency Yonhap reported on Tuesday.
Yoon, 65, unexpectedly imposed martial law in December 2024 and has been accused of insurrection by the special counsel, the report stated.
A verdict is expected either at the end of the month or in early February, according to media reports.
Although South Korea still has the death penalty, it has not been carried out for nearly 30 years.
