Closure of schools, universities in Tehran amid massive air pollution

Jan 03, 2023

Tehran [Iran], January 3: Iran's Air Pollution Emergency Committee on Monday decided to close kindergartens, schools and universities in Tehran for the next two days due to the extraordinarily high level of pollution.
The classes will be held online, the state-run news agency IRNA reported. Tehran's air quality is considered "unhealthy" for all groups.
Anyone who is sensitive to pollution or is from a high-risk group is to work remotely instead, including pregnant women, mothers, all employees over the age of 50, and employees with heart, lung and respiratory diseases. Tehran residents have been urged to avoid going outside unless it is necessary and to wear N-95 masks if needed.
The country's Meteorological Organization issued a red alert warning of massive air pollution in the capital Tehran and Karaj cities for Tuesday and Wednesday. (dpa)
