Chinese scholarships program launched in Myanmar

Yangon [Myanmar],December 10: The Bank of China (BOC) scholarships and grants program was launched in Myanmar's commercial city of Yangon on Friday, with 100 University of Yangon students benefiting from the scheme.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai said China has provided scholarship programs for Myanmar students via various channels and opportunities to study in China, helping the Southeast Asian country build its talent pools for further development.
China stands ready to continue cooperation with Myanmar in education and humanitarian fields, and supports Myanmar universities and institutions in deepening cooperation with their Chinese counterparts, the ambassador said.
Khin Chit Chit, pro-rector of the University of Yangon, expressed thanks to the BOC for providing the scholarships and grants, saying it is very beneficial for the education journey of poor students.
On behalf of the students who received the grants, Wine Thiri Aung, a freshman student of international relations and political science, said the program would greatly help students who were facing financial difficulties to continue their studies, adding that they will strive to become outstanding people contributing to the country's development.
The BOC program provides financial assistance to 100 students from the University of Yangon every year through scholarships and grants for the next four years.
