China warns after 5 citizens killed on Tajikistan-Afghanistan border

Dec 02, 2025

Beijing [China], December 2: China on December 1 warned citizens and businesses on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border after attacks in the area.
According to Reuters on December 1, the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan and Tajik officials said that attacks originating from Afghanistan last week killed five Chinese people and injured five others.
The Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) has advised Chinese companies and employees to urgently evacuate the border area.
Chinese citizens were targeted in an armed attack near the Afghan border on November 30, the Chinese embassy said.
Tajikistan has tense relations with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and has previously warned about drug trafficking and illegal gold mining along its border. China also shares a border with Tajikistan and is a major investor in the country.
Earlier on November 28, the Chinese Embassy said another attack in the border area - which Tajik authorities said involved grenade-dropping drones - killed three Chinese citizens .
Afghanistan has yet to officially respond to Tajikistan's statement on December 1. Last week, Afghanistan's foreign ministry blamed an unnamed group it said was seeking to destabilize the country and said it would cooperate with Tajikistan's government.
On December 1, the press office of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said that Mr. Rahmon met with the heads of security agencies to discuss ways to strengthen border security. At the meeting, Mr. Rahmon "strongly condemned the illegal and provocative actions of Afghan citizens and ordered effective measures to resolve the problem and prevent similar incidents from recurring."
