Nov 08, 2025

Russia [Moscow], November 8: Canada's employment increased by 67,000, or 0.3 percent, in October, the second consecutive monthly increase, Statistics Canada reported on Friday.
The employment rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 60.8 percent in October, also the second consecutive monthly increase, and the unemployment rate declined 0.2 percentage points to 6.9 percent, according to the national statistical agency.
There were more people working in wholesale and retail trade, transportation and warehousing, information, culture and recreation, as well as utilities, while employment declined in construction, said the agency.
Nathan Janzen, assistant chief economist at Royal Bank of Canada, noted that despite the strong report, some signs of softness remain.
U.S. tariff policy remains a significant risk, and labor markets are still softer than they were, with the unemployment rate still up 0.3 percentage points from a year ago in October, said Janzen in a market report.
