Armed man arrested near Trump's golf course in California

Aug 06, 2026

Los Angeles [US], August 6: An armed man was arrested at Donald Trump's golf course in California days before a scheduled visit by the president, police said on Tuesday.
Plain-clothes officers had reported a suspicious individual on the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday "taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
The man was arrested and police recovered ammunition and a 16-round magazine from him. A search of his vehicle uncovered a loaded pistol along with an additional loaded magazine.
A subsequent search of his home found weapons and ammunition, body armour, radio signal devices and "multiple notebooks containing concerning statements," police said.
Trump was expected at the golf course on Tuesday evening as part of a Republican Party fundraising dinner.
Security around Trump has been under scrutiny, with several incidents involving the president. In April, shots rang out at a press dinner in Washington, leading security forces to evacuate Trump and his wife and forcing the event to be abandoned.
In February, an armed man was shot dead by authorities at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. In 2024, while campaigning to return to the Oval Office, Trump was shot at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, slightly injuring his ear. (DPA)
