Abbas condemns 'all forms of violence' after deadly Jerusalem attack

Sep 09, 2025

Tel Aviv [Israel], September 9: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated his rejection of violence following a deadly attack in Jerusalem, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Monday.
Abbas condemned "any targeting of Palestinian and Israeli civilians" as well as "all forms of violence and terrorism," according to the statement.
At the same time, he said security and stability in the region could only be achieved through an end to Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, a halt to what he called "acts of genocide" in the Gaza Strip, and an end to "terrorism" by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
Abbas heads the Palestinian Authority, which administers parts of the West Bank. The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the internationally recognized representative of the Palestinian people, though Hamas remains a domestic rival to Abbas' Fatah movement.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, meanwhile, accused the Palestinian Authority of encouraging terrorism and incitement against Israel after two Palestinians carried out the Jerusalem shooting attack at a bus stop, which left six Israelis dead.
