5 drug traffickers killed on Syria-Jordan border: monitor

Damascus [Syria], January 7: Five drug traffickers were killed in hours-long clashes with Jordanian forces on the Syrian-Jordan border region in southern Syria on Saturday, a Britain-based war monitor reported early Sunday.
Intermittent clashes lasted for ten hours in the countryside of Syria's southern province of Sweida near the border.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement that another 15 traffickers were apprehended by the Jordanian forces, which also seized large quantities of drugs.
Jordanian forces are actively working to prevent the smuggling of drugs from Syria into Jordan.
