London[UK], November 8: The 21st Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival kicked off in Los Angeles, the U.S. state of California, on Thursday evening.
About 800 participants gathered for the cultural event, which aims to promote exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and U.S. film and television industries.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Guo Shaochun said that over the past two decades, the festivals have become important platforms for cultural exchange between the two countries, promoting practical cooperation and helping audiences better understand and appreciate each other through the power of films.
China and the United States have the world's most dynamic and closely connected film and television industries, Guo said. "With new technologies like AI and virtual production, there's even more potential ahead."
"By working together, we can make technology and creativity a new engine for China-U.S. cooperation in film and television," he added.
In her remarks at the ceremony, U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu said that over the past years, the festivals have grown bigger and more spectacular, honoring outstanding artistic achievements and carrying forward the spirit of creativity and cultural exchange.
"Through stories and inspiring images, we rediscover our shared dreams, emotions, and hopes for the future," she added.
This year's festivals received more than 600 film and television entries. A total of 10 films won the Golden Angel Award, including "Detective Chinatown 1900," "Nobody" and "The Dumpling Queen."
The Best Film Award went to "The Shadow's Edge." Five American movies won the Most Popular U.S. Film in China Award: "Venom: The Last Dance," "Jurassic World Rebirth," "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning," "F1: The Movie" and "How to Train Your Dragon."
