Gaza City [Gaza], July 20: At least 12 Palestinians, including an infant, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses reported Saturday.
Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that an Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at an apartment in the al-Sawahra area, west of the Nuseirat camp.
Al-Awda Hospital in the camp said in a press statement that 12 bodies arrived at the hospital, including an infant, children, and women, and seven others were wounded from the airstrike.
According to local sources, Omar Saeed Aqel, the Nuseirat police chief, and his entire family were killed in the attack.
It brings the death toll of Palestinians killed by Israeli airstrikes and gunfire in Gaza since dawn on Saturday to about 70, according to medical sources.
The Israel Defense Forces said Saturday in a statement that the Israeli Air Force struck some 90 "terror" targets across Gaza over the past day, including military compounds, militant-affiliated structures, and underground infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office on Saturday called for building safe and permanent humanitarian corridors under direct and effective international supervision, whereas Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh urged the international community to take serious and immediate action to stop the war and starvation in Gaza.
At least 7,938 Palestinians have been killed and 28,444 others injured since Israel renewed its intensive strikes in Gaza on March 18, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to 58,765, and injuries to 140,485, Gaza-based health authorities said Saturday.
