Over 509 mln USD worth of drugs seized in Myanmar in 2022

Yangon [Myanmar], December 16: Myanmar confiscated narcotics and precursor chemicals worth over 1,069.94 billion kyats (over 509.49 million U.S. dollars) so far this year, the state media reported on Thursday.
The seized drugs in 6,276 cases included over 1.1 tonnes of opium, 1.32 tonnes of heroin, 164.87 million stimulant tablets, 21.75 tonnes of ice (methamphetamine) and 2.04 tonnes of ketamine, it said.
Speaking at the Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control's (CCDAC) meeting on Wednesday, CCDAC Chairperson and Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt. Gen. Soe Htut said the committee carried out special operations on drug abuse control and made achievements in cooperation with the country's armed forces, police force and customs department.
The Southeast Asian country reported seizures of narcotic drugs and related materials worth 524.48 million dollars last year.
On June 26 this year, Myanmar burned drugs worth over 642 million dollars, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
