Ouagadougou [Burkina Faso], January 23: The government in Burkina Faso has called on French forces stationed there to leave within a month, state news agency Agenced'Information du Burkina (AIB) reported late on Saturday.
The government suspended a 2018 military agreement allowing French troops to be present in the country, according to the report. France currently has about 400 soldiers stationed in Burkina Faso to help the government fight armed groups, some of which are allied with the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) or the Al-Qaida terrorist network.
Interim president IbrahimaTraore has ruled Burkina Faso since the end of September, in the nation's second military coup within a year.
Traore replaced the previous military ruler Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri SandaogoDamiba, who deposed elected president Roch Marc Kabore. The population had become increasingly dissatisfied with Kabore's government which maintained close diplomatic ties with France, due to instability and poverty. (dpa)
