Bennett sprints to second Vuelta stage win in two days in Breda

Aug 22, 2022

Breda [Netherlands],August 22:Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) claimed his second stage win in two days as he again showed he is the strongest sprinter in the Vuelta a Espana cycle race on Sunday.
Bennett followed Saturday's triumph in Utrecht by powering home at the end of the 193.5-kilometer stage which started and finished in the Dutch city of Breda.
The Irishman finished ahead of Mads Pederson (Trek Segafredo), who was second on Saturday, with Dan McLay (Arkea-Samsic) third.
The new overall race leader is EdoardoAffini (Jumbo-Visma) who replaces his teammate Mike Teunissen in the red jersey.
The big feature of the day was a 7-man breakaway which got away early in the stage and managed to stay ahead of the peloton until the last 12 kilometers.
Although the stage was virtually pan-flat, the chase was complicated at times by some narrow roads and tight corners, which saw the peloton strung out and unable to bunch.
Monday is a rest day while the teams travel back to Spain ahead of Tuesday's fourth stage which is a hilly 152.5-kilometer stage between Vitoria and Laguardia.
