U.S. traffic deaths in first half of 2022 hit record high

Washington [US], September 21: Traffic deaths in the United States increased 0.5 percent to 20,175 in the first half of 2022, the highest number killed in the period since 2006, a U.S. official estimate has said.
Incidents of speeding and traveling without wearing seatbelts were higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic, said the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday.
Traffic fatalities increased after pandemic lockdowns ended, as more drivers engaged in risky behavior, U.S. media reports said.
