US attacked IS in Syria after base was raided by drones

Washington [US], January 23: US forces in Syria staged an attack against the Islamic State group (IS) in Syria and captured two members.
Reuters news agency on January 23 reported that US forces have arrested two members of the Islamic State group (IS) in an air and ground attack.
According to spokesman Joe Buccino of the US military's Central Command ( CENTCOM ), the raid that took place on January 21 also left one civilian with minor injuries. This person was taken to a medical facility for treatment and has returned home.
Washington continues to lead the coalition against ISIS in Syria . After losing their last stronghold due to defeat to the coalition in March 2019, IS members in Syria mostly retreated to hide in the eastern desert.
They have used these shelters to ambush Kurdish-led forces and Syrian government troops, while continuing their offensive in Iraq.
On January 20, CENTCOM reported that a US-led coalition base in southern Syria was hit by a drone attack.
Accordingly, 3 UAVs attacked the al-Tanf base in Syria. Two were shot down, but the third hit the base area, injuring two Syrian opposition fighters, according to CENTCOM. No party has come forward to accept responsibility for the incident.
Iran -backed forces have been deployed near al-Tanf, a garrison located on the strategically important Baghdad-Damascus highway, near the borders with Iraq and Jordan.
Iran is a key ally of the Syrian government and the coalition has foiled similar attacks against al-Tanf in the past. Armed IS elements are also active in the area.
The US-led coalition established the al-Tanf base in 2016 to train Syrian fighters for the fight against IS. About 900 US troops are still stationed at al-Tanf and other bases in Kurdish-controlled northeast Syria, in the coalition's ongoing campaign against the remnants of IS.
