Over 45 safaris permitted to resume operation

Male (Maldives), Aug 9: The Tourism Ministry has allowed 47 safaris and liveaboards to provide services to tourists.
The Tourism Ministry said 43 safaris are already in operation and that the remaining vessels will start operation within the month.
The Maldives closed its borders to tourists on March 27 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. The move had a significant impact on tourism faciltiies, with resorts and safaris ceasing operation temporarily. While the border was once again reopened on July 15, several resorts have resumed operation.
However, safaris can provide services to tourists only after obtaining a special permit from the Health Protection Agency and the Tourism Ministry.
