San Francisco [US] September 14: Boeing announced on Tuesday that its Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business unit has unveiled a new Advanced Composite Fabrication Center in Mesa, in the U.S. state of Arizona.
The new facility, purpose-built to produce advanced composite components for future combat aircraft, will be operated by Phantom Works, BDS' proprietary research, development and prototyping division, the company said in a announcement.
"The construction phase of the 155,000 square-foot facility is now complete, and the center is expected to be fully operational this fall," the announcement said.
Additional new factories supporting subsequent phases of production are under construction in the St. Louis region and slated to come online over the next few years, according to Boeing.
"The new Advanced Composite Fabrication Center and the factories that will follow it position Boeing to deliver the most digitally advanced, simply and efficiently produced and intelligently supported aircraft," said Ted Colbert, Defense, Space & Security president and CEO.
