Berlin (Germany) Oct 05: Hertha Berlin secured their third straight victory after coming from behind to beat Fortuna Dusseldorf at the curtain raiser of the seventh round in Bundesliga on Friday.
The hosts' grabbed a bright start in front of home crowd as veteran striker Vedad Ibisevic ensured the first chance of the game after pulling over the bar from close range following a free kick with just five minutes into the clash.
Berlin continued to produce chances but still the opener was scored at the other end of the green as Rouwen Hennings converted a foul-play penalty into the bottom left corner in the 32nd minute.
The "Old Lady" remained unfazed and rallied back only three minutes later as Ibisevic tapped home a cross from Marius Wolf to make it 1-1 on the scoreboards.
To make things worse for the visitors, Berlin turned the tides before the break after Vladimir Darida's pinpoint cross found Javairo Dilrosun, who volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from inside the box with one minute remaining in the first half.
After the restart, Fortuna came out offensively minded but Ante Covic's men spoiled all hopes of a comeback as Dodi Lukebakio's build-up work allowed Darida to put the result beyond doubt following a counter attack in the 62nd minute.
"We have made too many mistakes today. We grabbed the lead early in the game but we gave it away before the break due to sloppiness," Dusseldorf head coach Friedhelm Funkel said.
With the result, Fortuna Dusseldorf suffered their third defeat in row to stay on the 14th position for the moment whereas Hertha Berlin stay on the 10th place of the Bundesliga standings.
The following fixtures are set for Saturday: front runners and defending champions Bayern Munich host Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen see runners-up Leipzig, third placed Freiburg face Borussia Dortmund, newly promoted Paderborn clash with Mainz and Schalke encounter newly promoted Cologne.
